A Bouncer At An Exclusive Nightspot Finds Out Why Alcohol Overdose Symptoms And Signs Can Save A Drinker's Life
Just a few days ago, Ryan applied for a job as a bouncer at one of the local nightspots. He had studied gatka, ninjitsu, judo, karate, and aikido for three years; he was a personal trainer; he took daily vitamins, supplements, and minerals; he was into health foods and healthy eating; and he seemed well suited for such a position. When Ryan received notice that he had been selected for the job, he was very pleased. Due to the fact that this was a private club, however, he had to go through a seven week training class.
On the first day of class, the instructor started talking about people who drink in an excessive manner and what the bartenders, bouncers, and barmaids should do when this circumstance arises. When the instructor started speaking about alcohol poisoning, Ryan was pleased to learn that all of the new workers had to learn about alcohol poisoning and what they should do when they witnessed a person who was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms or displaying the signs of alcohol overdose.
More directly, all the new bartenders, bouncers, and barmaids learned that nausea and vomiting were almost always one of the first signs of alcohol poisoning and that unconsciousness was in all probability the most highly identifiable alcohol poisoning symptom or sign. The trainer also made it a point to highlight the fact that alcohol poisoning symptoms were messages from the brain and from the body that the drinker had consumed more alcohol than his or her body can metabolize.
There were, nonetheless, quite a few other signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning that all the new workers were taught to identify. For example, the members of the class discovered that people who suffer from alcohol poisoning often have seizures, exhibit confusion, exhibit poor reflex responses, and they are difficult to awaken.
Furthermore, the members of the class were made aware that many people who have alcohol poisoning also exhibit blue tinged or pale skin; slurred speech; little response from painful stimuli, for instance from pinching; and slow, shallow or irregular breathing.
To highlight the effect that binge drinking has on alcohol poisoning, the instructor explained to the members in the class that an individual who gets drunk just once or twice every year is, by definition, engaging in alcohol abuse. Such an individual, however, is probably not alcohol addicted, but is more likely than not engaging in binge drinking. As stated by the instructor, engaging in binge drinking even one time, unfortunately, can result in an alcohol overdose that in some situations can be fatal.
The teacher then told the members of the class that the correct response for an alcohol overdose is the following: if it is suspected that a person has alcohol poisoning, call 911 and ask for emergency medical assistance, even if the individual is underage. By following this course of action, the person will get the prompt alcohol poisoning treatment she or he needs.
After learning about alcohol poisoning and especially about the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning, it can be emphasized, Ryan felt that he had learned some important information that might save an individual's life down the road. Undoubtedly, Ryan learned that knowledge of the usual alcohol poisoning signs and symptoms and knowing how to quickly and properly respond to such signs and symptoms (by immediately calling 911 and asking for urgent medical assistance) can help an individual avoid a fatal case of alcohol poisoning.
