A Young Gentleman's Excessive And Hazardous Drinking Leads To A DUI And Time In The Local Jail

Richard had a particularly difficult time maintaining a job. Indeed, because of his sluggishness and lack of drive, he was out of a job far more often than he was gainfully employed. And when he did get employment, he had an unusually hard time getting to work in a timely manner, he regularly got less than acceptable performance reviews, and he called off sick so regularly that he usually got fired three or four weeks after he began working.

To no one's astonishment, one of the effects of Richard's less than positive employment record was the fact that he was just about flat broke almost on a daily basis. In spite of Richard's shameful employment track record and financial misconduct, nevertheless, one way or another he made it his business to drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner from day-to-day.

So it came as no big shock when Richard received a third DUI. When he went before the court, the magistrate told Richard that his alcohol-related conduct was awful and, consequently, he was going to sentence Richard to spend ten months incarcerated in jail.

During his time in the municipal jail, Richard was expected to learn more about alcohol abuse facts such as alcohol consequences and alcohol deaths, about the negative outcomes of hazardous and abusive drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol therapy. The magistrate highlighted the fact that unless Richard receives quality alcohol counseling and learns how to live a life of sobriety, he will probably be spending a lot more time in the city jail.

Richard stated that he grasped what the judge was declaring but he still thought that placement in the local jail was not the correct sentence. The magistrate saw things in an entirely different Manner and stated that it was his responsibility to keep alcohol dependent people off the streets who drink and drive and who get arrested for one or more DWIs. To substantiate this statement, the magistrate listed some honored, extensively evaluated alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse statistics and facts that underscored some of the destructive results that are correlated with hazardous and abusive drinking such as alcohol related deaths.

Although Richard knew that he drank in a hazardous manner, he never felt that he was an alcohol addicted person. So it was a big bombshell when Richard began experiencing chronic alcoholism symptoms and signs and alcohol withdrawals around five hours after getting incarcerated.

To treat his alcohol withdrawals in a harm free manner, Richard was taken by ambulance to a rehab center for alcohol detoxification and then returned to jail. While locked up in the county jail Richard was given alcohol rehab but since he received this rehab as something that was mandated for him, he was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his hazardous and abusive drinking.

When his time in the county jail was over, the magistrate without indecision told Richard that he would be under close observation and would be mandated to take periodic blood alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his drinking problem and how he halfheartedly followed the therapy policy and procedures while in the county jail, the judge knew that it was essentially a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his irresponsible and hazardous drinking behavior.

As the magistrate thought about Richard's situation, he couldn't help but think about how some people never figure things out and discover how to live in an accountable and effective manner.
